Electrolysis of Copper(II) Chloride (CuCl₂)
Blue ions: Copper ions (Cu²⁺)
Red ions: Chloride ions (Cl⁻)
Cathode (-): Cu²⁺ + 2e⁻ → Cu
Anode (+): 2Cl⁻ → Cl₂ + 2e⁻
Copper ions move toward the cathode and are reduced to copper metal. Chloride ions move toward the anode and form chlorine gas.
